Delicious and crispy Air Fryer Bang Bang Shrimp recipe that’s perfect for a flavorful appetizer or main dish. The shrimp are coated in a gluten-free panko crust and served with a creamy and spicy bang bang sauce.

For the shrimp:
- 1 lb. extra-large white shrimp, deveined and shell off
- 2 large whole eggs, whisked
- 6 tbsp tapioca starch
- 3/4 cup gluten-free panko
- 3 small pinch coarse sea salt, divided
- Avocado oil spray
- 1–2 bulb spring onions, finely chopped (or chive)
For the bang bang sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1/2–1 tsp hot sauce or sweet chili sauce
- 0.2 oz garlic clove, grated or crushed (about 1 large clove)
- 1 tbsp coconut aminos
- 1.5 tbsp ketchup
- 2 pinches of coarse sea salt
Instructions
- Pat the shrimp dry: Use a clean paper towel to pat the shrimp completely dry.
- Butterfly the shrimp: Cut along the back of the shrimp to butterfly them, creating a slight slit to open up the back of the body.
- Coat the shrimp: Set up bowls for egg, starch, and panko. Coat the shrimp in the sequence: egg, starch, egg, panko.
- Preheat the air fryer: Preheat the air fryer at 400F for 5 minutes.
- Air fry the shrimp: Air fry the coated shrimp in batches at 330F for 6 minutes.
- Prepare the bang bang sauce: Whisk together all sauce ingredients in a bowl.
- Serve: Garnish the cooked shrimp with spring onions, drizzle with bang bang sauce, and serve with extra sauce on the side.

- Make the shrimp in two separate batches.
- Press the shrimp onto the breadcrumbs for better adherence.
- Drizzle the sauce just before serving for optimal crunchiness.
