Description

Enjoy the flavors of a restaurant-style bread dipping oil at home with this easy-to-make recipe. This aromatic blend of herbs and spices mixed with olive oil creates a delicious dip for your favorite bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Herb and Spice Mixture:

  • 1 tablespoon (23 large cloves) minced garlic – use fresh, not the refrigerated kind in a jar!
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons freshly cracked black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Additional:

  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, optional

Instructions

  1. Mix Herb and Spice Mixture: Combine all the herbs and spices in a small bowl, excluding olive oil, garlic, and parmesan cheese.
  2. Prepare Dipping Oil: When ready to use, mix 1 tablespoon of the herb and spice mixture with about 1/2 cup of olive oil. Optionally, add 1 tablespoon of freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
  3. Storage: Store the remaining herb and spice mixture in the fridge for up to a week. If using dry garlic, store the mixture in your pantry for up to 6 months.

Notes

  • If you prefer a longer shelf life, omit the fresh garlic and add it when serving. The mixture can then be stored in the pantry for up to 6 months.
  • For a milder garlic taste, skip the fresh garlic and increase garlic powder to 1 teaspoon.
  • Nutrition facts are based on the dry herb and spice mix and do not include olive oil or cheese.
  • Try incorporating high-quality balsamic vinegar for an extra layer of flavor.
