Description

A hearty and flavorful one-skillet meal combining smoky kielbasa sausage with tender, seasoned cabbage. This quick and easy recipe delivers a comforting blend of savory and tangy notes with minimal prep and cook time, perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage

  • 1 lb kielbasa smoked sausage
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

Vegetables & Seasonings

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium head cabbage, cored and chopped into 1-inch pieces (about 2 lbs)
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Brown the Kielbasa: Halve the kielbasa lengthwise and slice it into 1/2-inch pieces. Heat a large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat, then add 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the kielbasa pieces, toss to coat, and cook until browned, about 3 minutes per side. Once browned, transfer the kielbasa to a plate and set aside.
  2. Sauté Onions and Cook Cabbage: Return the pan to the stove and lower heat to medium-low. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and chopped onion to the pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is softened. Then add the minced garlic, chopped cabbage, kosher salt, and black pepper. Toss well to combine. Cover the pan and cook, stirring every 4-5 minutes, until the cabbage is wilted and tender, about 12 minutes.
  3. Finish and Serve: Stir in the red wine vinegar, then return the browned kielbasa to the pan. Stir everything together, cover, and cook for an additional 3 minutes to heat through and tenderize the cabbage further. Taste and adjust salt if needed. Serve hot and enjoy your flavorful cabbage and sausage meal.

Notes

  • Cabbage and sausage make a perfect pair for a quick and satisfying one-skillet meal.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste, especially salt, as kielbasa can be salty.
  • For added flavor, you can sauté a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes with the garlic if you like a little heat.
