Description

This Bold and Buttery Homemade Chex Mix is a deliciously crunchy snack mix featuring a blend of Corn, Wheat, and Rice Chex cereals combined with pretzels, rye bagel chips, and mixed nuts. Coated in a rich mixture of melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, and savory seasonings, this snack is baked low and slow to achieve golden brown crispiness. Perfect for parties, game days, or anytime you crave a flavorful, buttery snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Cereal Mix

  • 3 cups Corn Chex Cereal
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex Cereal
  • 3 cups Rice Chex Cereal

Snacks

  • 2 cups mini salted pretzels
  • 1 cup Rye bagel chips
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (optional)

Butter Mixture

  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • ⅓ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Lawry’s seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 250ºF (121ºC) to prepare for baking the Chex Mix slowly and evenly.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the Corn Chex, Wheat Chex, Rice Chex cereals, mini salted pretzels, rye bagel chips, and mixed nuts if using. Mix well to distribute all components evenly.
  3. Prepare Butter Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter completely. Whisk in Worcestershire sauce, Lawry’s seasoned salt, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth and well combined.
  4. Coat the Mix: Gradually pour the butter mixture over the cereal and snack mixture. Use your hands or a large spoon to gently toss and mix after each addition, ensuring every piece is evenly coated with the seasoned buttery sauce.
  5. Spread on Baking Sheets: Spread the coated mix evenly on two large rimmed baking sheets to allow for proper airflow and even baking.
  6. Bake and Stir: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour. Every 15 minutes, remove the trays to stir the mix and rotate the trays from top to bottom to promote even cooking and prevent burning.
  7. Check and Cool: Remove the Chex Mix from the oven once it is golden brown and crisp. Let it cool completely on the baking sheets before serving or storing to maintain the crisp texture.

Notes

  • All ovens vary in temperature accuracy, so baking time can differ. Remove the mix once it reaches a golden brown color and crispness.
  • Be sure to rotate the baking trays between top and bottom positions every 15 minutes for even cooking.
  • Add the butter mixture gradually while mixing so the cereal is uniformly coated.
  • If you use salted butter or garlic salt in place of garlic powder, reduce the amount of seasoned salt accordingly to avoid over-salting.
