Description

Mummy Hot Dogs are a fun and spooky Halloween treat made by wrapping hot dogs and cheese in crescent dough to resemble mummies. Baked until golden and crispy, these bite-sized snacks are perfect for parties and easy enough for kids to help prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-oz.) can Crescent dough
  • 3 slices American cheese
  • 12 hot dogs
  • 2 tbsp. melted butter
  • Dijon mustard (for decorating eyes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare crescent dough: Separate the crescent dough into 4 rectangles, pinching the seams together where necessary to seal them. Cut each rectangle lengthwise into thin strips suitable for wrapping.
  3. Prepare cheese strips: Cut each slice of American cheese into 4 thin strips that will fit neatly on each hot dog.
  4. Assemble the mummies: Place one hot dog on top of a strip of cheese, then wrap with about 4 thin strips of crescent dough to resemble mummy bandages. Make sure the wrapping is loose enough to show some cheese and hot dog but secure enough to hold during baking. Repeat for all 12 hot dogs.
  5. Bake: Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet and brush them with melted butter for a golden finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the crescent dough is baked through and golden brown.
  6. Add eyes: Once baked and slightly cooled, use a toothpick to dot Dijon mustard onto each hot dog to create spooky mummy eyes.

Notes

  • This iconic Halloween snack is not only visually fun and spooky but is quick and simple to prepare, making it a great party appetizer or kid-friendly treat.
  • You can substitute the American cheese with cheddar or another melting cheese if preferred.
  • To make them gluten-free, use gluten-free crescent dough alternatives if available.
  • For extra flavor, consider brushing the dough with a bit of garlic butter before baking.
