Description

Sweet Chili Chicken is a vibrant and flavorful dish featuring tender chicken breast pieces marinated in a sweet chili sauce blend, then sautéed with fresh bell peppers and broccoli. This quick and easy recipe combines savory, sweet, and mildly spicy elements, making it perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner. Garnished with sesame seeds and green onions, it pairs wonderfully with rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Chicken and Marinade

  • 1 pound chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Vegetables

  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger

Cooking and Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Green onions, sliced, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate Chicken: In a bowl, combine sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Add the chicken pieces and toss well to coat evenly. Let the chicken marinate for 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken pieces and cook for about 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is browned on the outside and cooked through inside. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.
  3. Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add minced garlic and ginger, stirring briefly to release their aroma. Then add the sliced bell pepper and broccoli florets. Sauté the vegetables for 5-7 minutes until they are tender but still crisp.
  4. Combine: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour any remaining marinade over the chicken and vegetables. Cook everything together for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring often, until the dish is heated through and the sauce slightly thickens.
  5. Serve: Transfer to serving plates and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve hot, ideally over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sweet chili sauce to your taste preference.
  • Serve the dish over steamed rice, jasmine rice, or noodles to make it more filling and balanced.
  • For extra heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or fresh chili slices.
  • Ensure the chicken pieces are evenly sized so they cook uniformly.
